Your privacy, in plain words
Reading Scripture on Bibexa needs nothing from you. An account is optional. It only exists to remember your place and to let you take part in prayer and community. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, who can see it, and the choices you have.
At a glance
- You can read every translation without an account. We don’t build a profile of you when you do.
- We never sell your information, and we show no advertising.
- We don’t use advertising trackers or third-party analytics. We only keep simple anonymous counts, like how many times a chapter was opened.
- Prayer requests and community posts are public. Anyone can read them.
- You can ask us to delete your account and your information at any time.
1Who we are
Bibexa (bibexa.com) is run from India by a small team. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Bibexa. If you have any question about your information, email us at royaldominic@gmail.com.
2What we collect
What we collect depends on how you use the site:
| When you… | What we collect | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Just read | Nothing that identifies you. Your own device remembers things like your theme, text size and recent reading (see section 6). Your browser’s language setting is used once, to show the verse of the day in your language; we don’t store it. We keep simple daily counts of how many times each chapter was opened, with no name, IP address or device details. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs: IP address, pages requested, time and browser type. | To show you the page, to keep the site running and secure, and to see which chapters people read most. |
| Create an account | Your name, email address and a password, which we store only in scrambled form that we cannot read. We also save the date you joined, the date and time you agreed to our Terms and Privacy Policy (and which version), the date and time of each sign-in and whether you used a password or Google, how many times you have signed in, and when you were last active on the site. We do not record your IP address or device for this. | To create and protect your account, to keep a record of your agreement, and to spot misuse and see how the site is used. |
| Sign in with Google | From Google: your name, email address, a link to your profile picture, and a Google account ID. We never receive your Google password, and we can’t see your Gmail, Drive, contacts or anything else in your Google account. | To sign you in and fill in your profile. |
| Edit your profile | Your display name, an optional photo you upload, and an optional “life verse” line. | So we can greet you by name and show your photo. |
| Read while signed in | Your latest reading position, the days you mark as complete (which makes your streak), your highlights, notes and bookmarks, and your progress through reading plans. | To remember your place and keep your things safe across devices. |
| Pray or post | The words you write, the time you wrote them, the name shown with them, your Amen and Praying reactions, and notifications about replies to you. | To run the prayer wall and community. |
| Tap Listen | Your browser asks our server for audio of that verse. If it isn’t saved yet, our server asks Google’s Text-to-Speech service to create it. Only the Bible text is sent, never your name, email or anything about you. The audio is then saved on our server so it can be reused. | To read Scripture aloud in a natural voice. |
| Tap Amen on the verse of the day | We add one to that day’s count. If you are signed in, the Amen is also saved to your account (the date and the verse) so you can find it on your profile, and you can take it back by tapping again. If you are not signed in, we keep a short random code, made from your visit and the date and not linked to your name, only to stop the same visit being counted twice. That code is erased after three days. | To show how many people are reading the verse with you, and to let you keep the verses that spoke to you. |
We don’t ask for your phone number, home address, date of birth or payment details, and we don’t collect your precise location.
Because this is a Bible site, what you read, pray and write can reveal your religious beliefs, and sometimes health or family matters. We treat that with care and use it only to run the features you use. Please share only what you’re comfortable with.
3What other people can see
Public — anyone can see it:
- Prayer requests. Anyone can read the prayer wall, even without an account. Each request appears with the name you typed, or “Anonymous” if you left it blank.
- Community posts and comments. Anyone who visits the community page can read them. They show your display name as it was when you posted.
- Reactions. The number of Amens and Prayings on a post.
Private — not shown to other members or the public: your email address, password, Google account ID, reading position, streak, highlights, notes, bookmarks and plan progress. Your profile photo is currently visible only to you. If we ever show it to others, we’ll say so here first.
Two things worth knowing about “Anonymous”. First, posting without a name hides it from other readers only. If you were signed in, we still keep the post linked to your account in our records, so that we can act on deletion requests and deal with misuse. Second, once something is public, other people can copy or screenshot it, and we can’t control that. Please don’t post other people’s private details.
4Why we use it
We use your information to:
- run your account and sign you in;
- remember your place, streak, highlights and notes;
- run the prayer wall and community, and send you in-site notifications;
- keep the site safe, and stop spam and abuse;
- fix problems, and understand in a general way how the site is used, for example which chapters are read most; and
- answer you when you contact us.
We rely on your consent, which you give when you create an account or post and can withdraw at any time, and on our legitimate interest in keeping Bibexa secure and working. Where the law treats information that reveals religious belief as sensitive, we rely on your explicit consent for it.
We do not use your information for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not make automated decisions about you.
5Who we share it with
We don’t sell or rent your personal information, and we don’t share it for advertising. We do use a few service providers to run the site:
- Hostinger hosts our website and database, so everything described above is stored on its servers.
- Google is involved in three ways. If you choose it, Google signs you in. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so when a page loads your browser contacts Google, which receives your IP address and browser details. And Google’s Text-to-Speech creates our natural voices from Bible text only.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety or our rights. If we ever add analytics or another service that handles your information, we’ll update this page first.
6Cookies and device storage
- One essential cookie (a session cookie) keeps you signed in and remembers where you were reading. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
- Device storage. Your browser also keeps small settings on your own device: theme, text size, voice choice, the language you picked for the verse of the day, recent reading and last place, bookmarks, and highlights and notes. They stay on your device unless you are signed in, when highlights, notes and bookmarks are also saved to your account. You can clear this storage any time in your browser settings; that simply resets those preferences.
7How long we keep it
We keep your account information, sign-in records and activity for as long as your account is open. When you ask us to delete your account, we’ll delete or anonymise your personal information, and remove or anonymise your prayers, posts and comments, within 30 days. Backups may hold copies a little longer before they are overwritten. Our host keeps server logs under its own schedule.
A prayer posted without an account can’t be matched to a person, so to have one removed, email us enough to find it, such as the date and some of the wording.
8Your rights and choices
It’s your information. You can:
- See and correct it. Change your name, photo and life verse on your profile page. You can also remove your own highlights, notes and plan progress yourself.
- Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you.
- Withdraw your consent or delete your account at any time. For now, deleting an account, post, comment or prayer is done by emailing us at royaldominic@gmail.com.
- Nominate someone to exercise these rights for you.
- Complain. Tell us first so we can put it right. You may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Depending on where you live, laws such as India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the EU’s GDPR give you these rights. We will reply within 30 days.
9Keeping it safe
Our site uses HTTPS, so what you send is encrypted on its way to us. Passwords are stored in scrambled form, not readable even by us. Only the people who run Bibexa can access the database. No system is perfectly secure, so please choose a strong password and don’t reuse it elsewhere. If a breach ever affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires.
10Children
Anyone can read Scripture on Bibexa without an account. Accounts, community posts, comments and prayer wall posts are for people aged 18 or over. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
11Information stored abroad
Our host and Google run servers in several countries, so your information may be stored or processed outside the country where you live, including outside India. We use these providers because they take security seriously, but we can’t control where their servers are.
12Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll update the date at the top, and for significant changes we’ll show a notice on the site. Older versions are available if you ask.
