Luke 20:46

Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.

Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words. our words: or, our preachings

In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, phylacteries: pieces of parchment containing sentences of the law And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces, And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; with...: or, in the love of the brethren
