Luke 11:49

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. In whom: or, Wherein

To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; equity: Heb. equities To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. discretion: or, advisement A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. the interpretation: or, an eloquent speech

But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women. As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.

Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table. her beasts: Heb. her killing She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,

And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. of this way: Gr. of the way

Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,

They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.

Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them. And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities.

Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. stretched...: or, began And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
